Mooshie Entertaining

July 16, 2010

Marcella Mooshie hanging with her cousin Katrina.

This weekend, we’re entertaining guests – our cousin Katrina and our human grandmother. We’re very busy supervising the human and making sure she shows our guests a good time AND does not neglect us. An added bonus for us is that our guests love kitties and enjoy showering us with attention. We particularly like all the extra hair combing and brushing from our cousin. However, we’re not too happy when they go out all day for fun and leave us home alone. Anyway, we know what you’re all hoping for….TIPS. So, here are some Mooshie tips for entertaining weekend guests.

  • Relax. So what if you’re home is not in perfect order. Your guests are lucky to have a free place to stay. Don’t feel compelled to go on a cleaning frenzy before they arrive. Hire a cleaning service to help you.
  • Take time for yourself. No need to turn your weekend schedule upside down for these people. Be sure to maintain a few of your usual weekend activities that help keep you balanced. For example, our  mommy maintains her exercise schedule.
  • Spend quality time with your cats. Hosting guests does not give you an excuse to ignore your feline and canine children.

If you have a small home, we recommend you set limits on the number of overnight guests. And whether you have a large house or a small apartment, only allow the people you really like to stay in your home. Remember it’s YOUR home and you get to choose who comes to dinner or stays over.  There are some good resources on home entertaining. For the small apartment, checkout ForRent.com for advice. DivineCaroline has survival tips for the host. And for the food lover, visit Epicurious for home cooking and dining ideas.

Happy entertaining!

Atlantic City Cats

July 11, 2010

We recently learned that Alley Cat Allies, based in the Washington, D.C. area, has been running a super nice program in Atlantic City to care for all the Boardwalk feral cats. The program, “Every Kitty – Every City,” which started 10 years ago, cares for the outdoor cat colony living under the Boardwalk.  This is a pawsome story.  Three big cheers for Alley Cat Allies, all its staff and volunteers who take care of the Atlantic City cats. Our mommy adopted us from Alley Cat Allies. So, we’re big fans and support it. Mooshie love to all those Boardwalk cats. We better not find out they’re sneaking into the casinos.

Happy Independence Day 2010

July 4, 2010

We want to wish all our anipals and human friends a very Happy July 4th. This is a fun holiday for many Americans. Lots of yummy barbecues, parties and fun outings. It can also be a stressful time for pets. As we wrote in our 2009 July 4 blog, fireworks are scary for pets. So, please humans, be considerate to your furry family members (we’re not talking about men with hairy backs). Make sure your cats and dogs are in a safe place if you are planning to shoot off noisy things or take the entire family out to watch fireworks. And, make sure your pets are in a cool place so they don’t suffer from heat exhaustion. We wrote about cats and hot summer weather last year as well. Have a super holiday. Sending you lots of Mooshie love. Now we’re going to go crash a few cookouts.
